HOSTS: Dylan Fox + Joel Ward

VR and AR (together, XR) are amazing technologies, but they come with all-new accessibility challenges. Learn the basics of XR accessibility and how the XR Access Initiative is making them more accessible to people with disabilities.

Dylan is a UX design and accessibility consultant specializing in virtual, mixed, and augmented reality (XR). As the Coordination and Engagement Team lead for XR Access, he helps organizations invested in XR stay up-to-date on the latest accessibility guidelines and helps find solutions to novel accessibility challenges. He also conducts ongoing research at UC Berkeley on how AR can be used to help people with visual impairments. Read more about him in his portfolio.

Joel has over 20 years of experience in technology design, development, and management. He currently focuses on augmented and mixed reality, including product management. Joel has led Agile/Scrum for multiple development teams. He previously managed technology for a lab and demonstration center and spent the first 15 years of his career building websites and implementing collaboration platforms like SharePoint. Joel enjoys inspiring new ideas by demonstrating the potential of technology, designing creative applications of technology, and making technology accessible to everyone.
