PAST EVENT

ALTSPACEVR EVENT CODE: WPX024

HOSTS: Michael McDonald & Jack Ratcliffe

This talk presents a summary of the leading academic research into what makes VR an incredibly powerful medium for language learning; and how these have been turned into an effective VR learning experience in Noun Town, a VR language learning game.

With a combined 20 years of studying and teaching foreign languages, Michael runs the Gold Lotus consultancy (https://www.goldlotus.co/vr-english-schools) to support schools and businesses improve the way they develop English as a foreign language, cultural understanding and digital literacy using virtual reality. Michael is working on a number of projects relating to English-language learning in VR with schools and universities. One such project - VR for English and Future Skills - supports students in creating their own webXR experiences to connect them to students around the world, in real-time collaborative environments in a virtual, cultural-linguistic exchange program.

Jack is CEO of realiaXR, a AR/VR start-up building Noun Town - a fun VR game designed to create strong second language learning outcomes. It is inspired by his PhD research into embodied second language acquisition in virtual reality.
